Prime Minister urges solidarity after attack on Sawani temple

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has expressed deep concern over the stoning of a Hindu temple in Sawani, near Nausori on Tuesday night.

He says such acts must be condemned by all right-minded citizens and has called on religious and community leaders across the nation to stand united with the Fiji Police Force and the Government in upholding the rule of law.

The Prime Minister says Fiji is a proud multi-ethnic and multi-religious nation, and to preserve harmony, people must commit to living together in peace, with mutual respect for the cultures they practice and the faiths they hold dear.

Rabuka stresses that tolerance and understanding are essential in strengthening the bonds of communities.

He further says that taking the law into one’s own hands must never be an option.

While the Fiji Police Force investigates the incident, the Prime Minister has urged all leaders to join the Government in fostering greater partnership, unity and solidarity across society.
