The four political parties in the country are calling on the Electoral Commission to release the electronic copy of the National Register of Voters.
Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry questioned why the electronic copy cannot be released by the Elections Office.
Chaudhry said the FLP will take legal action if the electronic copy of the National Register of Voters is not released to them.
Social Democratic and Liberal Party’s senior member Doctor Tupeni Baba said the electronic copy should not be a secret document.
National Federation Party President Raman Pratap Singh said the Electoral Commission’s denial of access to the electronic copy of the National Register will result in only the government’s proposed party having access to this.
Singh also questioned why the Electoral Commission Chairman Chen Bunn Young sought advice from the Solicitor General’s Office on whether the electronic copy can be given to the parties.
The People’s Democratic Party is expected to meet later this week to discuss the delay in the availability of the National Register of Voter’s electronic copy to political parties.
When contacted by Fijivillage, Chen Bunn Young said he cannot comment on the decree.
He said that he will have to look at the decree and then comment later.
Young also stressed that he has not sought legal advice from the Solicitor General’s Office.
