Political parties can still have their signage up to show that it is a political party office – Saneem

Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem says offices of political parties can still have their signage up to show that it is a political party office.

When questioned about the issue of a few political parties still showing their party signage since the blackout period started on Monday, Saneem says that the signage does not say come and vote, it simply says the name of the office.

Section 63 (2) of the Electoral Act says that in the 48 hour period to polling day and on the polling day until the close of the polling at all polling stations, it is strictly prohibited for any person to engage in any campaign, including any broadcast, advertisement of publication and distribution of any campaign material; display slogans, banners, posters, flags or colours of a political party or a candidate in the election.

Further questions have been sent to the Supervisor of Elections for more clarification on this issue.
