Police say their next course of action will be determined after the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Fiji carries out a medical assessment of the dog allegedly beaten and thrown from the second floor balcony of a house in Raiwai on Monday.
A team from Police and SPCA Fiji took two dogs from this property into their custody this morning after obtaining a warrant.
The owner of the property was not arrested or questioned.
Police Spokesperson, Savaira Tabua says their investigations are continuing and they are awaiting reports from SPCA Fiji.
The complaint was first made by Raynal Singh to SPCA Fiji after he witnessed the incident.
Singh says the sad part is that it took so much time to rescue these animals.
SPCA Fiji says their team went to attend the case with the assistance of Police on Monday night but despite all attempts by their staff, they were unsuccessful in gaining custody of the dog in question as they could not enter the premises.
SPCA Fiji says the man in the premises allegedly threatened to “chop” the staff that responded to the incident.
There is no confirmation from SPCA Fiji if they have filed a complaint with Police about the violent threats made by the man.
