Police Commissioner resigns

Police Commissioner Commodore Esala Teleni has handed in his resignation.

Fijivillage News received the confirmation late last night that Commodore Teleni handed in his resignation late yesterday afternoon.

Commodore Teleni in his resignation stated that he believes that he has made a significant contribution to the Fiji Police Force.

However, it is now time for him to consider further career opportunities.

It is not known as yet on what career opportunities Teleni will now pursue.

Following his resignation, Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, as provided for under the State Services Decree, has recommended the appointment of Joeli Baleilevuka as Acting Commissioner of Police until the position is filled substantively.

The Ministry of Information confirmed that Joeli Baleilevuka will act as Commissioner of Police until further notice.

The Government has also said in a statement that it wishes to thank Commodore Teleni for his services to the Fiji Police Force and to the nation.
