People who missed out on government’s food distribution program to be given ration packs this weekend

Families living in Suva and Nausori who missed out on government’s food distribution program earlier in the week will be given ration packs this weekend.

Ministry of Economy Coordinator Kamal Gounder says these are families who applied by calling *161# and they are aiming to assist more than 3000 families.

Gounder says they have identified these families after carrying out their data cleansing exercise and have found that they were legitimate requests but did not receive the assistance.

More than 15,381 families in Suva and Nausori were assisted through the program during the recent lockdown.

This is in addition to the 4,250 families that were assisted in the previous Suva and Nausori lockdown.

Each food pack has eight items which includes one 10kg rice, 4kg flour, 1kg split peas, 500ml cooking oil, 4 tin fish, 100 grams of tea leaves, 2 packets of breakfast crackers and 300 grams packet of milk powder.

The cost of one pack is around $43.50.
