The Ministry of Education is urging parents and guardians to have their children immunized against various diseases such as measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus and cervical cancer.

Minister Rosy Akbar says since schools around the country remain closed, students in Years 1, 6 and 8 may have missed out on receiving their vaccination.

Akbar says children normally receive their vaccination in Terms 1 and 2 which is coordinated by the Ministry of Health.

Akbar says while most schools are covered in Term 1, a few schools get scheduled for Term 2.

She is urging parents and guardians to contact the nearest medical facility and make possible arrangements for children to receive their vaccination.

Akbar says she knows times are difficult but it is important that children are immunized at the earliest. She says their records confirm that 51% schools have been covered by the Health Ministry.

The Ministry of Education is urging parents and guardians to check their children’s health card and contact their heads of school for further information.
