The parliament which existed prior to the events of December 5th, 2006 will have to be recalled to ensure the proposed electoral changes in the draft People’s Charter are made legally and within the confines of the 1997 constitution.
Member of the National Council for Building a Better Fiji, CCF's Reverend Akuila Yabaki told Fijivillage this afternoon that the ousted members of parliament are the ones who will be mandated to make the changes once they come to an agreement on the matter at the proposed Presidential Forum which is to include all political parties and other stakeholders.
Yabaki said they will have to act on legal and constitutional advice to recall the ousted parliament.
Yabaki said another option being explored is to hold elections under the current system and mandate the next elected parliament to make the necessary changes to the electoral system and the constitution.
Yabaki was also questioned by members of the public on the matter at a forum on the draft Peoples Charters last night in Lami but failed to explain the process.
