Following the comments made by Communications Fiji Limited News Director, Vijay Narayan, on the shortcomings of the Online Safety Commission Act, the Commissioner, Filipe Batiwale, has today confirmed that they have already begun a legislative review and are working with relevant government stakeholders to amend the legislation.

Batiwale says every complaint received is treated as confidential and for good reason to ensure that victims are not re-victimized by having their information disclosed.

He adds for all formal complaints, the commission responds to the complainant within two to three days.

Narayan maintains they are still waiting for a response in relation to the last case raised by one of their female staff members.

He says they have also discussed with the Online Safety Commission about the increased cyberbullying of their staff, and ways to work together to tackle the issue.

Narayan says the review of the Act is welcome news, and it is about time that effective and efficient action is taken in relation to this serious matter.

He says he raised the issue to prompt a review and improvement of the system and legislation, not to invite attacks or defensive statements.

Narayan hopes for a united and collaborative effort.
