No performance recognition and lack of rewards are contributing factors to the labour brain drain - Singh

No performance recognition and lack of reward contributes to the issue of labour brain drain in Fiji.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Agni Deo Singh who says not only skilled workers but professionals and civil servants such as doctors, teachers, and nurses are also leaving the country.

He says this is due to a big challenge of skills training as most technical and vocational training centres were closed after a few years of their opening due to poor planning.

Singh says such issues will be discussed between the Employment, Productivity, and Industrial Relations, Ministry of Education, and other training institutions through campaigns, dialogue, discussions, and summits with support from Australia and New Zealand.

He says as far as employment opportunities are concerned, there has to be economic activity to attract investors based on how business in the country is made easier and how people come through their conditions in allowing businesses to invest.

The Minister also says the only way to continue developing our skills is through skills development programs such as technical and vocational education which has a very big gap as it needs a lot of work to be done.
