Murder suspects remanded in custody
The two men charged with the alleged murder of a 28 year old tertiary student of Koronivia in Nausori have been remanded in custody till next month by the Suva Magistrates court this afternoon.

The two accused, Salesi Baleivuya and Navitalai Tiritabua appeared this afternoon before Magistrate Pramila Ratnayake charged with five separate counts of damaging property, robbery with violence, murder and resisting arrest.

Ratnayake informed the two that no plea would be taken as it was an indictable offense and the matter would be automatically transferred to the High Court.

The duo sought the Courts leniency saying that they wanted bail as they were both employed and were scared of losing their jobs while Tiritabua told the Court that he was seeking bail as he was the sole breadwinner and his wife was pregnant.

However, State lawyer Mareta Tikoisuva objected to bail saying that the two are alleged to have committed a serious offence which carried the penalty of life imprisonment and that their third accomplice was still on the run.

The Court heard that on the 4th of May the two and their accomplice allegedly attacked 28 year old Krishneel Singh with a spade when he had gone to pick up a few tools from his house in Shalimar Street.

The assault allegedly resulted in the death of the victim. It is also alleged that the two damaged a vehicle in which the deceased and his friends were in when they went to Shalimar Street.

The case has been transferred to the High Court for mention on the 14th of June.
