A father and son will appear in the Sigatoka Magistrates Court today charged with the murder of 38-year-old Vimal Vikash Nand.

Nand was allegedly assaulted by the two in Sigatoka on Sunday.

He was laid to rest at Koromumu Cemetery yesterday.

The two men, aged 51 and 19 years, are jointly charged with one count of murder, one count of act with intent to cause grievous harm, and one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

Police had earlier said that the victim and two 16-year-old students were allegedly assaulted by the two men after they were confronted over an incident involving one of the victim’s farm animals.

The victim was later found unconscious by his brother with injuries.

Police say the three victims were taken to Sigatoka Hospital, where 38-year-old Nand was transferred to Nadi Hospital and later to Lautoka Hospital.

Attempts to revive him proved futile, and he was pronounced dead.
