In an effort to eradicate the cultivation of marijuana, the Agriculture Ministry is recommending alternative produce for income.
This was after it was raised at the police symposium on Friday on the number of people enjoying good income from marijuana farming during a presentation by Fiji National University’s Asinate Moroca on the topic of “Agriculture and livestock security on government perspective”.
Moroca said while there is good income generated from marijuana farming, it is only for the short term.
Meanwhile, an estimated loss of $54 dollars is incurred in agricultural thefts.
Moroca said a major problem in the agriculture sector is that there is lack of expertise and capability to put into place policies and impose fines on agricultural thefts.
She said it is important that the agriculture ministry works with police on this matter.
