More than 500 jobs are expected to be created in the Northern Division as several projects are planned in the coming months and this is also expected to prevent people from moving to the Central Division.

Labasa businessman Satish Kumar says Damodar City complex is expected to open in about 2 months, Rups Big Bear's triple storey building will be opening soon as well, construction is expected to start soon on a Vinod Patel building, a new White Diamond Apartment and Black Sea Apartment, extension of the Grand Eastern Hotel is also planned in the coming months while Extra Supermarket will be setting up in the North as well.

Kumar says the development will help in stopping people from moving to Suva and hopes this will help some people into deciding to return to the Northern Division.

He says the economy in the North is not bad as they generate their own income because of the sugar industry and cash crop production.

Kumar has acknowledge the government and the Minister for Sugar Industry for giving incentives to cane farmers as this will be enable them to hold people from moving to Suva.

He further says the World Bank funded US$600 million tourism development plan for the Northern Division is good news as there is a lot of scope for tourism in Vanua Levu where they have beautiful beaches.

He says this will also open up more jobs and develop a night life as well.
