Following the official declaration of Navua as a town, Minister for Local Government Maciu Nalumisa says a special administrator will be appointed to help manage the Navua Town Council, while plans are also underway to relocate the Navua Market and bus stand to Thompson Park.
He says these plans will be progressed under the 2026–2027 National Budget.
Nalumisa says significant development has already taken place in the area over the past decade, and the new Navua Plaza is expected to open at the end of the year.
Ashwini Lata, who has been a vendor at the Navua Market for the past 27 years, says she is happy that Navua has finally been declared a town and hopes the change will bring more development and employment opportunities.
Lata says she is looking forward to the Government's plans to relocate the Navua Market and bus stand and hopes that more parking facilities will be provided.
Meanwhile, Resort Homes Fiji Director Renu Snowsill says the declaration presents new opportunities for Navua and its people, as they will now be able to benefit from improvements in infrastructure, including roads, the Navua Market and bus stand.
Snowsill says she is also looking forward to improvements in parking and infrastructure around the town, as well as upgrades to Navua Hospital and local schools.
She says the maternity ward at Navua Hospital is closed, with services currently being provided from the outpatient area.
Snowsill says the ongoing water problems, along with the need for major cleaning and infrastructure improvements, are among the issues requiring urgent attention.
She says residents and stakeholders must work together and support Navua's development to ensure the wider community benefits.
