Medical expert calls for more trainings to identify victims of violence

Medical Services Pacific Acting Country Director, Dr Kesaia Tuidraka Robinson has called on the need for increased training and capacity development for healthcare workers, police officers, workers, and counsellors to identify victims of violence.

While speaking at the Service Delivery Protocol Validation workshop, Dr Robinson emphasised that there is a need for increased professional development in terms of training to identify victims of gender-based violence.

She adds that an SMS messaging helpline should be established for persons with disabilities to ensure everyone is included and gets the support.

Robinson further stresses that there have been cases in the Eastern Division where boats only travel once a week, causing delays in collecting forensic evidence, adding that these issues need to be addressed.

She also stresses that while it is important to create community awareness, people should be informed about the availability of services.

She adds by stating that there is also a greater need to strengthen coordination through meetings held twice a year or quarterly to resolve issues.
