Match day squad selection is based on performance at training - Byrne

Players need to be training well to earn their spot in the match day 23 squad as the selection is based on performance during training.

These were the words of Swire Shipping Fijian Drua Head coach Mick Byrne when asked by fijivillage News on why there are still some players in the squad that have yet to make an appearance in this year’s Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season.

Byrne says the boys have been performing well on game day but it is important for them to be performing well during training because players can not be performing well on the field if they are not training well.

He adds some players that have forced their way into the match-day squad have been impressive at training and he hopes there will be more players making an appearance in the next few weeks.

The Fijian Drua will play the Brumbies this Friday at 9.35pm.

In other matches this week, Moana Pasifika will meet the Reds at 4.05pm Friday, the Hurricanes take on the Chiefs at 7.05pm Saturday, and the Waratahs play the Western Force at 9.35pm Saturday.
