Man charged with alleged rape tells court he had consensual sex with aunt

A 32-year-old man charged with allegedly raping a 53-year-old woman in Vanuabalavu in Lau in 2013 has told the Suva High Court that he had consensual sex with the woman.

The man who is charged with one count of rape has pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The woman is the accused person’s aunt.

During cross-examination today, the accused said he had asked the woman in advanced if she wanted to have sex after a drinking session and she agreed.

It is alleged the 32-year-old man raped his aunt when she blacked out after drinking home brew on the 1st of September 2013.

The trial will continue tomorrow.
