The Head of the Catholic Church in Fiji Archbishop Peter Loy Chong says major decisions are being made with little or no input from majority of the local communities in Fiji regarding foreign debt, trade or economic activity.

While speaking at the National Federation Party’s Annual General Meeting, Archbishop Chong says there is a need for a new political authority, new forms of governance and creations of new institutions and practices for managing a new world.

Archbishop Chong says what is needed is a new political globalization that matches, counters and humanizes the economic globalization.

He says it is not the church’s role to make policies but they only seek to inspire the state and political parties in order to bring about a new and more just society.

Archbishop Chong says the social doctrine of the Catholic Church has two purposes, which is to set forth the requirements of a just social action set forth in the Bible and denounce social, economic, and political actions in the name of justice.
