The executives of five major bus companies that operate in the Central Division have agreed to increase the number of buses operating during peak hours in the afternoon to ensure people reach home before the curfew starts at 8pm.

This is after a meeting with the Fiji Police Force and Suva City Council where discussions also focused on ensuring the government's physical distancing guidelines were being followed in buses and the Suva Bus Stand.

The executives of Shore Buses, Dee Cees, Nasese Buses, Nairs Transport and Island Buses Limited attended the meeting.

Police officers will also be controlling movement of traffic along the Suva-Nausori corridor to ensure quick turn around time for buses servicing the routes.

They have also agreed to create temporary bus bays to avoid congestion at the Suva Bus Stand.

These temporary measures are now being implemented.

A follow-up meeting will be held on Monday.
