Speaker of Parliament Ratu Epeli Nailatikau says the live stream of all Parliament sittings including its Committees through Facebook is terminated indefinitely.

Facebook was a cheaper and convenient option for people to watch the parliament sessions live.

He told parliament this morning that it has been brought to his attention that Facebook is providing auto-generated subtitles, which he has been advised are incorrect and out of context.

Ratu Epeli says he can verily confirm that the Parliament does not provide nor have control over the subtitles that appear on the screen.

The Speaker of Parliament says these subtitles are auto-generated and is a feature that is controlled entirely by Facebook.

He says, therefore, given that the Parliament has no control over the auto-generated subtitles which are incorrect, he has given instructions that the live stream of all Parliament sittings including its Committees through the Facebook platform, is hereby terminated indefinitely.

Ratu Epeli says this move is necessary as it is crucial to maintain the integrity of Parliament and the important work that it is mandated to undertake.
