New parliament broadcasting system to connect more fijians to parliamentary activities
More Fijians, including those living in remote communities, will now be able to follow parliamentary activities without having to travel to Suva, following the launch of Parliament's new mobile broadcasting system.

Speaker of Parliament Filimone Jitoko says the new system will allow public consultations, committee meetings and parliamentary site visits outside Suva to be broadcast through Parliament Television.

He says this will give people a better opportunity to follow discussions on proposed laws, government policies and issues affecting their communities.

Jitoko says the system will also improve transparency, accountability and public participation, ensuring the voices of women, young people, persons with disabilities and people in remote areas are heard.

The project was supported by the governments of Australia, Japan and New Zealand through the Fiji Parliament Support Project, managed by UNDP.

New Zealand-based Gencom Technology provided the mobile broadcasting equipment.
