Good news for the people of Vanua Levu, as the services of the Land Transport Authority will soon be brought closer to them with the official groundbreaking ceremony of a new office at Vatunibale in Labasa today.
Minister for Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau says the event marks more than just the launch of a construction project as it signifies the Government’s ongoing commitment to decentralize, people-centric services, infrastructure development, and improved access to transport services for the people of Vanua Levu.
Ro Filipe says the new fully-fledged LTA Labasa office will not only expand service delivery capacity but will also become a vital transport hub for the Northern Division.
He says the Labasa construction project has been in the pipeline for several years.
He adds with a total investment of approximately $7.2 million, the project is set to begin construction on the 3rd of next month and is scheduled for completion by 21st August 2026.
The new facility will house 40 staff and offer a comprehensive range of services.
These services will include driver licensing, vehicle registration, and inspection services, along with a weighbridge facility that will enhance transport logistics and support road worthiness and road safety measures in the region.
He also highlights that LTA processes an average of 18,228 transactions monthly across the Northern Division, with 5,456 of those conducted in Vatunibale alone.
LTA Board Chairman Inosi Kuridrani says the event marks a significant step forward not only for the Authority but also for the people and communities they serve across Vanua Levu.
