“I was waiting for my son’s call but instead I received a call from Police who advised me that my son has passed away.”

These were the words of a 59-year-old mother who is mourning the loss of her eldest son, Salesh Kumar who died in a fatal road accident in Nadi on Friday night.

Mohini Lata of 9 miles, Nausori told Fijivillage that her 38-year-old son was residing in Nadi for sometime and he used to call her everyday.

Lata says Kumar had called her two hours before the incident and had said that he will again call her later in the night when he reaches home.

Lata says her son was going home after shopping when the incident happened at about 9.30pm.

She says she could not believe the Police and thought that it was a joke when she was advised that her son had passed away.

Meanwhile, Police are still questioning the 48-year-old driver who is alleged to have been reversing his truck that hit Kumar who was crossing behind.

Police say he allegedly drove off leaving Kumar lying on the ground.

A woman saw Kumar and raised the alarm after which he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The post mortem is expected to be conducted tomorrow.
