Hurricanes ignoring Savea's rugby league comments and focusing on the title

Hurricanes forward Ardie Savea

The Hurricanes are not sweating on Ardie Savea's recent comments about potentially swapping codes in the near future, insisting that they are focused on more important matters like his injury and a Super Rugby title.

Savea made headlines yesterday when he said on the Ice Project podcast that he wants to switch to the 13-man code during his career.

Hurricanes Assistant Coach, Chris Gibbes said the club is not buying into all the noise and if people look at it, Savea is a competitive athlete and he is not the first player to talk about changing codes.

Savea’s contract with New Zealand Rugby expires next year after signing an extension to remain with the Hurricanes in 2018 instead of taking a lucrative offer from a French club.

When asked about Savea’s recovery, Gibbes says Savea is ticking along week by week and his recovery is what matters to them right now.

The Hurricanes will face the Sunwolves at 3.45pm Saturday.
