Heavy Rain Warning from Severe Thunderstorms now in force for Western, Southern and interior Viti Levu

A Heavy Rain Warning from Severe Thunderstorms is now in force for Western, Southern and interior Viti Levu from the greater Nadi area, interior of Nadroga/Navosa, Sigatoka-Korolevu, interior and coastal Serua-Namosi.

The Nadi Weather Office says severe thunderstorms are expected to produce heavy rainfall and may lead to flash flooding of low-lying areas in the next few hours over Western, Southern and interior Viti Levu, greater Nadi area, interior of Nadroga/Navosa, Sigatoka-Korolevu, interior and coastal Serua-Namosi.

They say a moist easterly wind flow prevails over the group.

A trough of low pressure lies to the far east of the country and is expected to continue to weaken while drifting southwards.

Meanwhile, another trough of low pressure lies slow moving to the west of the group and extending southeastwards to the south of Fiji.

The Weather Office says associated cloud and showers are expected to affect parts of the group for the next few days.

They say due to the unpredictable nature of thunderstorms, some locations within the warning area may experience little to no impact, while others could face severe conditions.

Please remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as conditions can change rapidly.

The Weather Office is advising people to keep clear of flooded creeks and drains, don't walk, ride bikes or drive through flood waters, stay vigilant and monitor conditions and unplug electrical appliances.

Thunderstorm activity and associated heavy rainfall is expected to persist untill later in the evening.
