A Heavy Rain Warning from Severe Thunderstorms is now in force for parts of Western, interior and Eastern parts of Viti Levu and the whole of Vanua Levu.

The Nadi Weather Office says severe thunderstorms are expected to produce heavy rainfall and may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas in the next few hours over parts of Western, interior and Eastern parts of Viti Levu including parts of Nadi to Ba/ Rakiraki, interior of Ba/Nadroga/Navosa, interior and coastal Ra-Serua-Namosi-Naitasiri, greater Navua-Suva-Nausori and Vanua Levu.

They say a trough of low pressure lies over the northern part of the country bringing with it associated cloud, showers are expected to affect parts of the group over the next few days.

The Weather Office says due to the unpredictable nature of thunderstorms, some location within the warning area may experience little to no impact, while others could face severe conditions.

They are asking people to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as conditions can change rapidly.

People are advised to: a) Keep clear of flooded creeks and drains b) Don't walk, ride bike or drive through flood waters c) Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. d) Unplug electrical appliances.

Thunderstorm activity and associated heavy rainfall is expected to persist until later in the evening or overnight.
