A signing of a Memorandum of Agreement today between the Ministry of Health, the Live & Learn Environmental Education and Monash University paves a new way of tackling vector-borne diseases in Fiji not only by way of eliminating prevention of dengue, but also Zika, and chikungunya.
Speaking at the signing Chief Health Inspector and National Advisor on Environmental Health Dip Chand says the Eliminate Dengue Program will roll out straight after the signing.
Chand says this includes recruitment of project staff, training, refurbishment of project facility at Mataika House, a massive awareness campaign, and community engagement.
He says Project Staff Field officers will be trained with the support from by Eliminate Dengue Program experts from Monash University.
Chand says in Fiji, the initiative will be rolled out across the Suva‑Nausori Corridor over the next 12 months, with the support of government and local communities.
He says this will enable funds used for Anti‑Dengue campaigns and response to dengue outbreaks to be better utilized in other areas of concern in the Ministry.
