The head of the Burebasaga confederacy said it is now clear that the Interim Prime Minister has become the Chairman of the Great Council of Chiefs to dictate who becomes the country's President and Vice President.
The Marama Na Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Teimumu Kepa said the previous attempt of the interim administration to appoint a Vice President had failed and this is another way to try to get their nominee endorsed.
Ro Teimumu said this latest development has just made a mockery of a well respected Fijian institution.
The Great Council of Chiefs Special Taskforce did not recommend to cabinet that the Interim Prime Minister and Minister for Indigenous Affairs should be appointed as the new Chairperson of the GCC.
A taskforce member said the appointment of Bainimarama contradicts what they have recommended. He said their recommendation was that the President, Vice President and Prime Minister should not be part of the GCC since they want the institution to be apolitical. He said they discussed the issue with the GCC Taskforce Chair Ratu Tuakitau Cokanauto yesterday.
