Great Council of Chiefs Chairman Ratu Viliame Seruvakula

As the Great Council of Chiefs meeting is underway at the Grand Pacific Hotel, the delegates have completed their discussion on the review of the iTaukei Administration or Fijian Administration and the economic empowerment paper.

Great Council of Chiefs Chairman Ratu Viliame Seruvakula says the meeting this morning went well where Dr Jale Baleidrokadroka led the committee team that conducted the review on the iTaukei Administration.

He says Dr Baleidrokadroka and the team updated the Chiefs on what they had come across during the review and also have come out with a number of recommendations.

Ratu Viliame says they also held a minute of silence in remembrance of two of their members who have passed away.

The Chair adds that one of their members is from Rotuma while the other is the Turaga na Tui Yawe from Kadavu.

Ratu Viliame says this afternoon, the members will form into confederacy groups and they will discuss the two papers that have been discussed this morning and will reconvene to present their findings.

He says from there they will look at the proposals and see what they can agree on and pass to the government or to the relevant line ministries.

Other issues that will be discussed in the meeting as highlighted earlier by the GCC Chair are drugs, violence against women and girls, erosion of the iTaukei language and proper use of natural resources.
