As we commemorate the legacy of Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna, it is important to remember that he believed in empowering Fiji through education, promoting culture and traditions, and finding ways to integrate modern progress with traditional values.
While speaking at Ratu Sukuna Memorial School during the Ratu Sukuna Day celebrations, Great Council of Chiefs Chairman Ratu Viliame Seruvakula emphasized that we all need to work together to rebuild the social and traditional ecosystem of our young nation.
Ratu Viliame says rebuilding this ecosystem will require the involvement of all ethnic, religious, and social groups—as well as leaders and members of the community alike.
He says we cannot rebuild the nation in isolated components; therefore, we must work together as one.
The GCC Chairman also highlighted that the most important cog in the wheel of rebuilding our ecosystem is the students, our youth, and our children.
He says the achievement of success will depend on the collective will of society.
He reminded RSMS students that their journey begins now.
He encouraged them to make the decision, even as students, to live and work towards a greater Fiji.
He adds this journey should start with simple actions choosing to do the little things right, and listening to good advice from parents and teachers.
Ratu Viliame also highlighted that Fiji seeks young leaders who embody the spirit of Ratu Sukuna leaders who lead by example and truly walk the talk.
Meanwhile, students from Yat Sen High School and MGM High School are also participating in the celebrations.
The Ratu Sukuna Day celebration is currently underway at Subrail Park in Labasa.
