A high chief of Cakaudrove and former Chairman of the Great Council of Chiefs has today dismissed claims made by the head of the Burebasaga confederacy, Ro Teimumu Kepa that Commodore Bainimarama is now the GCC Chairman to dictate who becomes the President and Vice President.
Ratu Epeli Ganilau who is now the Interim Defence Minister, said chiefs who are unhappy with Bainimarama's appointment should stop misleading the public.
He said it is clear that Bainimarama as the Interim Indigenous Minister can change the regulation governing the GCC and that was done through the gazette.
Ratu Epeli said as far as he is concerned, Bainimarama has followed the proper procedure which has resulted in him becoming the Chairman of the GCC.
However Ro Teimumu Kepa questions why a person who is not a chief has pushed himself to the top position of the Great Council of Chiefs.
But Ratu Epeli Ganilau said the precedent was already set when Sitiveni Rabuka who was not a chief, took up the GCC Chairman's post.
He said people should just look at all the facts before speaking.
However Ro Teimumu said this action will not be entertained and they are now looking at their options before deciding on their next step.
