Former Fiji Soccer Captain gives birth in combat zone

Former Fiji Women's soccer captain and British Army gunner Lynette Pearce has been identified by British tabloid Daily Mail as the soldier who had given birth in a combat field hospital in Afghanistan.

28 year old Pearce has made headlines around the world and this is also the first for a British soldier.

Pearce was in the Fiji women's football team from 2007 to 2009.

She had a healthy son five weeks prematurely on Wednesday saying she was not aware of her pregnancy.

It is understood the baby was conceived before she began the six month tour before Pearce in her 34th week of pregnancy went into labour.

Meanwhile, the UK Ministry of Defence is yet to confirm the  identity of the solider who gave birth in Camp Bastion, Afghanistan.
