As Tropical Cyclone Gita continues to move away from the Fiji group after battering Ono-i-Lau and Vatoa overnight, the Nadi Weather Office says people in Lau and Kadavu should be prepared for sea flooding of coastal areas.

The Weather Office also says that all the other areas including Viti levu and Vanua Levu should experience heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Expect flash flooding in low lying areas.

The gale warning for Ono-i-Lau, Vatoa, Matuku, Totoya, Moala, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands is now cancelled.

A strong wind warning remains in force for the rest of Fiji.

Cyclone Gita was located about 230 kilometres South South East of Kadavu earlier this morning and continues to move away from Fiji in a westerly direction at 16 kilometres per hour.
