Fire not only destroys houses but separates family members

A fire that destroyed the homes of four families at the Suva Muslim League settlement in Nabua yesterday morning has not only left them homeless but has also separated family members.

50-year-old, Abdul Rafiq who lost his house was in tears when he told Fijivillage how his son and wife are living with the relatives in the same area while he has no option but to stay at a friend’s place.

Rafiq said he has been residing at the Suva Muslim League settlement for the last 45 years and just does not know how to rebuild and move on with his life.

He said it is a very bad start for his family for the holy month of Ramadan.

Rafiq is requesting people to assist him and other three families to restart their lives.

16 people have been left homeless after this tragic fire.

These houses were situated very close to each other.

Police are working with the National Fire Authority to determine the cause of the early morning blaze.
