Fiji holds key bilateral meetings with Aust and NZ
Fiji has held key bilateral meetings with the Foreign Ministers of Australia and New Zealand and it has been indicated that the ministers want to maintain regular contact and work towards normalizing full relations with Fiji.

Foreign Affairs Minister Ratu Inoke Kubuabola held the meetings while in New York for the 68th Session of the United Nations General Assembly’s High Level Week.

In both meetings with Australia’s Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and NZ Foreign Minister Murray McCully, Kubuabola was able to update his counterparts on Fiji’s new constitution, and further steps taken along the roadmap to elections to be held no later than September 2014.

Kubuabola said Bishop recognized Fiji’s steadfast contributions to UN peacekeeping.

He said Bishop also acknowledged Fiji’s standing in the UN community through its G77 Chairmanship in 2013.

Frank and fruitful discussions were also held with McCully and Bishop on bilateral relations.
