Fiji Dental Council involves Police in relation to dentist
The Fiji Dental Council has now involved the Fiji Police Force in relation to a dentist who has not closed the 5 dental clinics she has been operating after her annual practicing certificate was revoked on Monday.

Chief Executive Officer and Registrar Dharmesh Prasad said the dentist’s indemnity insurance had expired at the end of last month and the Fiji Dental Council gave her an extension for a month to secure an acceptable insurance policy.

Prasad said the dentist was given until Monday but when they met with her, they found that she had not obtained the indemnity insurance.

Fijivillage questioned Prasad if a dental practitioner can operate more than one clinic which he says this is not covered under the Medical Dental Practitioner Decree 2010.

He added they are now looking at restricting dental practitioners to only operating one clinic.

Meanwhile, Consumer Council Chief Executive, Premila Kumar asks why the Fiji Dental Council has not taken action since Monday to ensure that the clinics are closed.

She also questions why the dentist was allowed to operate five clinics.

Meanwhile the main investor of the clinics, Prem Prasad claims their indemnity insurance cover application is being delayed.

Prasad said they have had enough and are ready to meet the Prime Minister.
