Young people see opportunity where others may only see risk or difficulty, they see solutions where others may see only immovable obstacles, and they see Fiji’s place in a world that is rapidly evolving, and in many ways rapidly shrinking.

These were the words of Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama while officiating at the Prime Minister’s International Business Awards at Sofitel Resort in Nadi last night.

Bainimarama highlighted that any business that fails to engage with young minds is simply counting the days until its business model fades into irrelevance.

He also urged business leaders that as captains of different industries, they all have vital roles to play in taking Fiji’s economy forward adding that this is why it is important business leaders do not take a back seat when it comes to the management of our economy.

Bainimarama also highlighted that top economists from the world’s leading financial organisations, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, have taken a good look at the state of Fiji’s economy and, should Fiji maintain the present course, projections for our continued growth are positive and more positive still.

The Prime Minister has also reiterated to business leaders that it is their duty to bring their experience and expertise to the table by giving their professional opinion when it comes to matters affecting Fiji’s economic growth and the well‑being of our people.

Bainimarama also acknowledged that the Textile, Clothing and Footwear Industry Council for doing exactly that in recent months, when they called out irresponsible statements being made about our economy.

The Prime Minister also pointed out that while meeting with the newly appointed Minister for Tourism and Trade, Premila Kumar and Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, they highlighted that it is important that businesses and government remain close partners, it is important to work together to sustain and create new and better employment opportunities, as it is equally important that they share priorities for our economic development.

Meanwhile, Fiji Airways scooped the Supreme Award at the 2018 Prime Minister’s International Business Awards at the Sofitel Resort in Nadi last night.
