A number of families have been evacuated from the interior of Tavua after flood waters entered their homes earlier today as a tropical cyclone warning remains in force for Fiji.
Director DISMAC Pajiliai Dobui confirmed that they are trying to ascertain the number of people now taking shelter at the PWD Barracks in Tavua.
Dobui said all evacuation centres in the Western Division are also being activated in case people need to move to higher ground.
People living in low lying and flood prone areas on Viti Levu are advised to take all necessary precautions as flash flooding is expected due to continuous heavy rain.
