The Fiji Nursing Association is concerned about the number of nurses leaving the country due to low salaries and the quality of support provided to them by the Ministry of Health from COVID-19 until today.

Association General Secretary, Filomena Talawadua says most of the nurses that are leaving are the ones that are frustrated over the last 16 years because they know that their concerns are being ignored.

She says most of the nurses are scared to raise their issues because they were fearing victimisation.

Talawadua adds that the health officials only focus on the development of hospitals and nothing on the difficulties that nurses are facing.

Talawadua pleads to the Coalition Government to re-look into the nurses salaries because their service is important in their country rather than giving their service elsewhere.

We are awaiting a response from Permanent Secretary for Health, Doctor James Fong.
