Building on the successful town hall forums held in Savusavu and Labasa in July 2025, the Fiji Media Association will have two new “Meet the Public and the Press” Town Hall meetings in the Western Division.

These events will take place in Tavua this Wednesday, 15th October 2025 at the Golden Event Centre, and in Ba on Thursday, 16th October 2025 at Khatriya Hall.

Both sessions will run from 7pm to 9pm. Communications Fiji Limited News Director, Vijay Narayan calls on people to come out in numbers to raise the issues that matter to them on the ground. As with the previous forums, the upcoming Tavua and Ba events will provide an opportunity for citizens to engage directly with the nation’s leadership in an open question-and-answer setting.

Members of the public will be able to pose questions directly to government leaders in attendance, with each session moderated by senior editors and journalists to ensure a fair, balanced discussion.

Both town hall meetings will be broadcast across the country via a coordinated multi-platform media coverage. In fact, the forums will air on seven major media outlets - Communications Fiji Limited (fijivillage), FBC, Fiji TV, The Fiji Sun, The Fiji Times, Mai TV, and Fiji Live  ensuring unprecedented transparency, reach, and public access to the discussions.

Preliminary consultations conducted by the FMA in Tavua and Ba have identified several pressing local issues that require attention.

Reflecting these community priorities, the town hall dialogue is expected to cover key national and local topics including job creation and employment opportunities, infrastructure development, agriculture (with particular focus on the sugar industry), health services, education, environmental challenges, and youth development.

These themes mirror many concerns raised by residents, and the forum will allow frank discussion of each issue directly with policymakers.

FMA President Stanley Simpson says these town hall meetings are part of a broader mission to strengthen democratic dialogue in Fiji.

He says these town halls represent more than community meetings they are opportunities to strengthen Fiji’s democracy through meaningful engagement between government and citizens.
