A Special Taskforce has been established by FICAC to address the backlog of unresolved investigations.

The Taskforce will also be responsible for prioritising active and incoming case files to ensure timely and effective outcomes.

This is part of FICAC’s major internal reforms to strengthen it’s operations to improve the delivery of its core anti-corruption mandate.

Other key measures implemented include a comprehensive structural and financial review, the Corruption Prevention Department has been realigned.

FICAC says staff have been reassigned to other strategic units within the Commission to better support investigations and prosecutions.

They say the Audit and Compliance Unit with the Monitoring and Evaluation Team will form a unified Oversight and Accountability Unit.

This new unit will monitor performance and ensure compliance across all departments, reducing duplication and strengthening institutional integrity.

FICAC further says a senior legal consultant with extensive litigation experience will be engaged by the commission to assist in prioritising prosecutions and reviewing longstanding case files to accelerate the legal process.

The Commission is also reviewing its Standing Orders which has been in the pipeline since July 2024, but they are looking at introducing 2 new features (that is commonly found in other jurisdictions) into the standing orders to enhance transparency and accountability across the organisation.

FICAC’s Acting Commissioner, Lavi Rokoika says these changes reflect their commitment to delivering results, strengthening institutional discipline, and ensuring that every taxpayer dollar spent achieves value for the public.

Rokoika says they are focused on getting outcomes — not just rhetoric — and rebuilding public trust through action and reform.
