The early years of a child's life are crucial, shaping their health, education, and future potential, and the government is committed to Early Childhood Development as a national and regional priority.
Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran highlighted this while co-chairing the Ministerial roundtable discussions during the Pacific Regional Council for Early Childhood Development in Samoa.
Kiran says the government is calling for collective Pacific-wide action to invest in the well-being of young children and that there is an urgent need to ensure every Pacific child receives the support they need from the very start.
She says they have witnessed powerful stories, national experiences, and compelling data showing progress and the gaps in early childhood development across the region.
The Minister says Early Childhood Development is not just about education, it is a vital tool for building stronger, more resilient communities.
Kiran further says there is a need to work closely with families and communities, recognising that culture, language, and trust play pivotal roles in shaping early development outcomes.
She adds we must value and invest in children at every level—starting within their homes and communities.
