Fiji will have a Driving Academy in the near future which will see all the driving schools in the country coming under one roof.

LTA CEO, Naisa Tuinaceva said the new Academy will bring proper educational-based curriculum and training, will have efficiency and effective services, and a one stop shop for people wanting to learn how to drive and will have a better control and monitoring system.

While speaking to the transport industry stakeholders at Fiji National Transport Sub Sector Stakeholders Consultation today, Tuinaceva revealed that this academy set up will only have three to four branches in the country.

He said currently there are 92 driving schools in the country and the fee charged is exorbitant and after the Academy is set up, LTA will decide on the fees.

He said that the Academy will have instructors who will be fully qualified to do the job as currently anybody can apply to become an instructor.

He said they are talking to FNU and TPAF to see if Instructor training can be provided.

He also raised the issue of driving schools only providing training for group two licenses.

According to Tuinaceva there are demands for other classes and this Academy will provide training from group one to group nine.

He said the Academy setup is in their corporate plan however the major challenge is to get all the driving schools together and talk to them first.
