Diwali to help us improve ourselves

Diwali celebration is time where when we can look back and see what wrong we have done and how can we better our lives and improve our standard of living.

This message has come from the Shri Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji and the organization is urging all citizens of Fiji work hard and help themselves first if they want to prosper in life.

Secretary, Vijen Prakash said Diwali is not only a time to wear new clothes and get together with relatives but is a time to make some important decisions as to how a person can improve his life.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said that while Diwali celebrations were initially limited to the Hindu religion, other cultures have embraced this event now which is a testimony to the increasingly tolerant nature of the communities.

In his Diwali message to the country Commodore Bainimarama said that Diwali has a universal appeal which transcends all barriers.

He said the true spirit of Diwali pursues peace and prosperity and both goes to those who genuinely seek it.

He said that Diwali is a significant part of Fiji's Calendar which displays the cultural and religious diversity that Fiji is known to the world for.

The Prime Minister is calling on the people of Fiji to let the festival of lights remind all of our shared history and common future.
