Discussions under way on how minors can be blocked from accessing porn sites
Minister for Defence Timoci Natuva

Minister for Defence Timoci Natuva has assigned a team to meet and discuss with service providers on how they can block minors from accessing porn sites.

Natuva says that they have had discussions with the Security Council about blocking such sites.

This topic came to light when Opposition MP Jiosefa Dulakiverata asked Natuva in parliament on what is the main cause of the domestic problems in the country.

Natuva says Fiji now has access to adult sites and they suspect that it is one of the reasons for the increase of rape in Fiji.

He adds that they are now awaiting reports from professionals and other stakeholders before they take the next step.

Parents have the main responsibility to ensure that their children do not go to these sites as the children are accessing these sites through phones or computers provided by their parents.

Experts have told us that parents can just install Kids Safe apps  or parental control software to ensure that their children are unable to access these sites.

The other option is for the internet service provider to filter and block these sites however this has to be done at a national level.
