Travelers from Fiji will now be able to fly directly to Papua New Guinea as the two governments have signed a memorandum of understanding on more flying capacity.
Acting permanent secretary for foreign affairs and civil aviation Isikeli Mataitoga said the MOU on air services, initialed in Port Moresby last December, will allow an easier traveling route between Nadi and Port Moresby for people instead of going through Brisbane.
The agreement is for more flying capacity for our national carrier Air Pacific and PNG's Air Niugini.
PNG's acting director of foreign affairs and trade Jimmy Ovia said the airfares itself is much cheaper, than going to Australia for their people, and PNG maintains a very cordial relationship with Fiji.
Mataitoga said this has paved the way for tourism and necessary structures for infrastructure.
