Devastation reports still pouring in

Seven days since Tropical Cyclone Mick passed through Viti Levu, reports of devastation are still pouring into the National Centre for Disaster.

Acting Director for DISMAC Pajiliai Dobui said that they have already compiled reports from Vanua Levu however their field workers are still compiling reports from the Central and Eastern Division.

When asked about an estimated cost of damage, Dobui added that it runs into the thousands because people's farms which was their livelihood, as well houses were destroyed.

Meanwhile, full power restoration throughout Viti Levu may take as long as a month.

Dobui said that they have been briefed by FEA and according to their engineers, power has been restored to majority of Viti Levu however some households may be without power supply because the connection from their homes to the main power line is faulty.

Meanwhile, residents of Sawani, Nausori have raised concern that they still do not have power supply for almost a week now.

A resident, Avinesh Kumar told Fijivillage that all of their frozen goods have gone bad adding there are no broken power lines or any fallen power poles in their area and they do not understand why power supply has been affected.

Kumar added as a result of the lack of power, they also feel unsafe as there is a possibility of a robbery taking place.
