Residents in parts of Taveuni say the ongoing water shortage is becoming increasingly desperate, with some families still waiting for water despite reaching out to the Water Authority of Fiji for assistance.
A resident from Naselesele told fijivillage News that after contacting WAF to arrange a water cart to fill his household tanks, he was asked to provide his details and was told someone would call him back with a quotation.
However, he says several days have passed and he has not received a phone call or an email.
The resident says the situation has become critical as families continue to struggle without a reliable water supply while the dry spell persists.
Last week, WAF told fijivillage News that prolonged dry weather had significantly reduced water levels at the Mua raw water source, affecting water production and supply to several communities across Taveuni.
The Authority says it was carrying out water rationing and valve operations to manage the limited supply, adding that normal water supply would only be restored once there is sustained rainfall and the island's raw water sources recover.
Questions sent by fijivillage News to the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management last week on what assistance is being provided to affected communities remain unanswered.
We have also sent further questions to the Water Authority of Fiji regarding the concerns raised by residents, including the reported delays in arranging water deliveries, and are awaiting a response.
