After securing Fiji’s first ever gold medal at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, golden boy Iliesa Delana is now planning to try his luck in the track events.
He won gold in the high jump F42 category for single leg amputees with a jump of 1.74 meters setting a new Oceania record in the process and becoming the first athlete ever in Fiji and the Pacific to win a gold medal in the Paralympic Games.
In an interview with BBC, Delana revealed his future plans.
Delana said he had no idea up until the last moment that he actually won a gold medal adding that it still has not sunk in yet.
Delana said he is also aware of the big homecoming that awaits him.
Delana has also encouraged students with disabilities to participate in sports.
Meanwhile, Sports Minister Commander Viliame Naupoto said a major celebration has been planned for Delana’s victory later this week.
Delana arrives in the country on Wednesday.
